For dental treatment, as dentists, we communicate both to patients and other dentists by using the tooth numbering system. In Thailand, we use tooth numbering system like in Europe, UK, Australia, etc. In USA, another tooth numbering system is used. To avoid confusion, we use this system to communicate with our patients. Just imagine that you are in the front of the mouth and look through the opening mouth. Then the prefix number will be 1.. , 2.. , 3.. , 4....(This is for the permanent teeth, for primary or baby teeth, we use 5.. , 6.. , 7.. , 8.. instead.)Start with prefix number 1 is on the upper right quater, then run clockwise to upper left (2...), lower left (3...) and finally lower right ( 4...). For complete dentition, there are 32 teeth in total, 8 teeth for each quadrant. Start counting from the midline of your face with number 1,2,3,...8. Like the quadrant 1 or upper right, you can count tooth number from 11,12,13,14,....18. For upper left, you can count tooth number from 21,22,23,23,....,28. |
